We are taught that it’s important to be respectful, yet the practice of questioning a couple’s decision to not have a family is still openly frowned upon. A woman who doesn’t want children is still considered abnormal, a childless man is thought to be selfish and immature.

It is not the business of anyone but the couple (and potentially their doctors) whether they should decide to have children. That means it’s none of your business, so think before you utter any of these condescending phrases to a childless/childfree person.

I agree. Stop telling people what to do with their fucking lives. If you don’t want to have children, don’t. It’s just as valid of a choice as any other, and should be respected as such.

All of these things. I don’t really want a kid because I can’t have one with my genes. Like, it’s that simple. I don’t want all the responsibility for someone that doesn’t feel to me like they’re carrying me on in any way. And people just go on and on about how “you’ll change your mind one day” - like shut the fuck up. It’s my choice and just because you made a different one doesn’t mean everyone ever for forever wants to be like you. Also same deal with marriage.

If I’m such a selfish, immature, and abnormal being for choosing to not have kids be fucking glad I’m not having kids- the less of me around the better.

I hate how so many people just assume you’ll have kids. No I don’t need a child…My body probably wouldn’t be able to handle giving birth anyway.

I’m going to be the devil’s advocate here and, as a person who wants kids in the future, I’d like to know why you think your decision would be seen as a “personal attack” on how I hope to live out my life?
